The Art of Visual Storytelling – Wow!

At Picture Book Club Cottage we were lucky enough to be sent a review copy of this fabulous text as a late Christmas present. Anyone interested in writing, illustrating, reading or talking about picture books should try and get their hands on a copy.

This revised edition has been updated with new titles, pictures and sections and for those who haven’t seen it before it is a veritable cornucopia of all things PB related. There is a wonderful introductory section outlining the history and development of picture books followed by chapters covering technique, audience and subject matter.

There are case studies to highlight particular issues and, as befits a book about the art of storytelling, it is generously peppered with glorious illustrations taken from a wide range of picture books, some very familiar and some less so.

I think Picture Book Club members will be particularly interested in the final chapter which gives a step-by-step guide to the publishing process.

This is definitely one everyone should have on their bookshelf or on semi-permanent loan from the library!
