Picture Book Club

Picture Book Club is a monthly book club for grown-ups who love picture books. Perhaps you are an author or illustrator or you have ambitions to write a picture book? Just love all the new exciting writing and artwork coming out? Want to learn more about children’s publishing?

Then Picture Book Club is for you! We meet on the second Tuesday of every month and alternate between Windsor and Reading branches of Waterstones. Our meetings start at 7pm in Windsor and 7.30pm in Reading. Each month we arrange a speaker or other book-related event and then there is a chance for a bit of networking and some nibbles. Previous speakers include Sophy Henn, Nicolette Jones, Mat Tobin, Meg McLaren and Yuval Zommer. Tickets are £5 on the door.

Picture Book Club is organised by Fiona Barker and Kate Poels. We’re both picture book authors and just want to share our love of the genre.

Clare Welsh

We’re off on tour again for Picture Book Club #10! As we’re on holiday, we thought we’d take a trip to the glorious West Country to meet Clare Helen Welsh. There will be a holiday atmosphere at Exeter Waterstones on 22.8.17 at 7pm! Clare is a perfect fit for us Clubbers as her debut book was all about biscuits (second only to cake in our affections!). Clare will be sharing with us the publishing journey that brought us the gloriously titled The Aerodynamics of Biscuits! Throwing biscuits will be discouraged on the night but there may be the opportunity to eat one or two (-;

It’s a bumper month again for Picture Book Club #11 as we welcome back the rather marvellous team from Andersen Press  to Windsor Waterstones on 12.9.17. Last time they came we said we would be interested to speak to an author-illustrator team. They have come up trumps with Joseph Coelho and Fiona Lumbers whose new book Luna Loves Library Day is out in October. We’re getting a sneak peek so don’t miss out!

Tiny Owl

It’s our year anniversary with Picture Book Club #12 and we are so excited to welcome innovative children’s book publisher Tiny Owl to Reading Waterstones on 10.10.17. Established in 2015, Tiny Owl have quickly established a strong reputation for producing original, beautiful picture books. Cultural partnerships between writers and illustrators are also a key principle for Tiny Owl and we look forward to hearing more about this in October!
